Tips to honor and celebrate Mother’s Day
By Sheyla Fairley
Always celebrated on the second Sunday in May, Mother’s Day is a special day to honor and express your gratitude towards the women in your life who raised and loved you all. Even though moms are celebrated, mother figures such as an older sister, aunt, cousin, grandmother, or anyone who has played a significant role in your life can be celebrated too.
Try some of these fun Mother’s Day activities listed down below to make your mom feel special because she’ll love it if it came from you.
-
Classic card for mom
It’s pretty common to gift your mom a card for this day. Whether the card is store-bought or homemade, it wouldn’t hurt to pen a heartfelt message to her to show your appreciation or to remember a fond memory you both share. A floral arrangement can also be included with the card.
-
Go on a day trip
Spend the day together doing what your mom loves since this is supposed to be a day meant for her. Take her out to fun destinations ranging from visiting landmarks to treating her to a meal at her favorite restaurant.
-
Go shopping
No one knows better what to get your mom than she does, so just spend the time together browsing through selections or going on a shopping spree. By helping her sort through items and outfits, you’ll gain a better understanding of what she could want later on.
-
Have a spa day
Give your mom a day of pampering by having an at-home spa day which can be accomplished by searching up DIY spa treatments. To make the experience more authentic, craft her a gift certificate for her to cash in on this day.
-
Make her breakfast in bed
Serving her breakfast in bed is a simple and appreciated gesture. Give her the chance to sleep in as you prepare some of her favorites.
-
Bake together
Cooking is a great way to bond with one another. Have a go at preparing a family recipe or get experimental and try to make something you haven’t done before.
-
Look through family photo albums together
Reminisce about the past as you and your mom flip through old family photos and recordings. Listen to her as she recalls what each moment was about and what it meant to her. You can also make new memories to add to the collection.
-
Give your mother a day off
Grant your mom some well-deserved relaxation by encouraging her to spend time with friends, engage in some of her hobbies she didn’t have the time to do before, or do whatever she wants as long as she focuses on herself. While she’s doing that, lend a helping hand by tackling tasks on her to-do list and by up-keeping the house.
