FedEx launches second year of HBCU Student Ambassador Program

FedEx, the world’s largest transportation company, is entering its second year of the FedEx and Historically Black Colleges & Universities Student Ambassador Program, which is part of FedEx’s five-year commitment to HBCUs that was announced in 2021. The second cohort will launch later this month.
According to an article, the program helps prepare “HBCU students with opportunities to learn about FedEx from executives and build leadership and career-ready skills with the goal of expanding the company’s pipeline for diverse talent.”
“FedEx is proud to strengthen our ties with HBCUs across the country and provide students with the tools and resources to pursue fulfilling careers,” said Jenny Robertson, FedEx senior vice president of integrated marketing and communications. “Initiatives like this are important to building a diverse talent pipeline within FedEx.”

Partnership between Aramark and TMCF to launch HBCU Emerging Leaders Program

Aramark, the provider of food, facilities and uniform services to hospitals, universities, school districts, stadiums and other businesses around the world, has partnered with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) to launch the Aramark Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Emerging Leaders Program.
According to an article, the program calls for 15 HBCU students to spend two days at “Aramark’s headquarters in Philadelphia, PA, focusing on career exploration and professional development” and will have the “opportunity to engage in planned simulations, network with executive leadership, participate in discussions about internships and post-graduation career opportunities, and provide Aramark with vital consumer insights.”
“This program was named Emerging Leaders because we look to these students as the future of our industry and Aramark,” said Jack Donovan, CEO and president of Aramark Collegiate Hospitality. “This partnership demonstrates our commitment to HBCU institutions and the students that they serve. We can’t wait to see how our program participants leverage their potential, and we hope that this experience supports their pathways to success.”

PVAMU to host IDEAS workshop set in April 2023

After being awarded a grant, Prairie View A&M University, Prairie View, TX, will be hosting one of four Increase and Diversity Education Abroad for U.S. Students (IDEAS) workshops. The IDEAS program is designed to increase and diversify American student mobility in support of U.S. foreign policy goals through a grant competition and workshops.
“The workshop will help us prepare faculty and international educators from PVAMU and around the country who can deliver the type of international programming that helps students expand their international perspectives,” said Godlove Fonjweng, Ph.D., executive director of International Programs at PVAMU, in a release. “By studying abroad, students learn about other people and their ways of life, thus preparing themselves for our increasingly interconnected global community.”

Hampton University hires former Hampton student-athlete as new director of athletics

Hampton University, Hampton, VA, has named Anthony D. Henderson, Sr. as its new athletic director, who will fulfill the position beginning February 27, 2023. As stated in a release, Henderson has “20 years of progressive athletics leadership experience,” including when he most recently “served as deputy director of athletics” for Yale University, New Haven, CT.
“I am extremely excited about being named Hampton University’s director of athletics,” Henderson said. “Hampton is home for me. I was a student–athlete who played football here, and I am a proud Hampton graduate. To return as the leader of this department is surreal and an auspicious honor. I look forward to continuing the legacy of producing championships and creating transformational opportunities for our student–athletes, inside and outside of the classroom.”
N.C. A&T student uses social media platform to provide students with scholarships, internships, and professional development opportunities

According to an article, North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, NC, psychology student Jasmine Glover established the Collegiate Society in July 2022 to help “students fund their education, gain experience in their professional field of interest and prepare for life after college.”
Since its inception, the Collegiate Society has been “a valuable resource to students because of the information and opportunities posted, which allows them to develop as college students and advance their careers.”
“After graduation, I want to work as a diversity, equity, and inclusion consultant,” Glover said. “I hope to increase minority leadership, foster inclusive work environments and establish a pipeline for diverse talent. I also hope to transition the Collegiate Society into a career coaching business that offers services to recent graduates and those changing career fields.”
