New ECSU 10-year master plan to create safer pedestrian-friendly environment

According to an article, the Board of Trustees at Elizabeth City State University, Elizabeth City, NC, approved a 10-year master plan that is “more pedestrian friendly campus and develops a cohesive and expanded footprint for the university.”
“ECSU’s student population continues to expand. As we attract more scholars from North Carolina, neighboring states and across the country who seek the affordable quality education we offer—our campus has to transform to be ready for the next chapter in our institution’s rich legacy,” said Dr. Karrie G. Dixon, ECSU Chancellor. “The new master plan coupled with our 2020-2025 Strategic Plan Forging Our Future provide the framework for the continued progress that will propel the university, the Elizabeth City community and northeastern North Carolina forward.”

Urban Edge Network signs largest media rights deal with GCAC

As stated in a release, Urban Edge Network, a Black-owned media company, has made a 5-year deal with the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference, a college athletic conference, to be “the official streaming arm of the league and its member institutions through HBCU League Pass+.”
“Urban Edge Network is excited about this landmark partnership with the GCAC. The significance of this relationship will be measured by our impact on the communities that these important institutions reside in. We are creating direct monetization impact on students, athletes, and cities by amplifying the capabilities of each institution within the conference,” said Todd F. Brown, CEO of Urban Edge Network. “It is our goal to create cultural value by extending our innovative NILs program which will have an immediate impact on these scholar-athletes.”
FSU launches ‘first-of-its-kind’ hub

Fayetteville State University, Fayetteville, NC, teamed up with the City of Fayetteville and Cumberland County to officially launch a hub focused on business and entrepreneurship on September 14, 2022.
According to an article, the Fayetteville-Cumberland Regional Entrepreneur and Business HUB has been described as the “first-of-its kind” that will help “local entrepreneurs and established business owners improve operations, access professional training, secure capital and obtain crucial certifications with the goal of obtaining new business opportunities.”
The 6,500-square-foot building used to be the university’s old bookstore located on Murchison Road adjacent to FSU’s main campus in Bronco Square and will be open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Partnership between Ivy Beauty and the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to launch scholarship program

Ivy Beauty, an innovative global leader in beauty care, is partnering with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) to launch the Ivy Beauty scholarship program for the 2022-2023 academic year. The program will award 20 students who attend a TMCF member school (publicly-supported historically Black colleges & universities and predominantly Black institutions) with up to $4,100 in a scholarship.
As stated in a release, applicants must be “full-time freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors at a TMCF member school during the upcoming school year,” be required to have “a GPA of 3.0 or higher, demonstrate leadership abilities, establish a financial need and be a U.S. Citizen or legal permanent resident.”
Ivy Beauty scholarship applications will be open from September 6 to October 10, 2022 where students who are selected will be notified between February and March 2023.
Toyota Motor North America and AARP to present Café Mocha’s 2022 Salute THEM Awards ‘My HBCU Joy’

Presented by Toyota Motor America and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), the Café Mocha’s 2022 Salute THEM Awards ‘My HBCU Joy’ will be held at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture (NMAAHC) in Washington, D.C. with an in-person celebration on October 18, 2022.
“’My HBCU Joy’ is the only awards program that honors the contributions of HBCU graduates and reflects the unique experience of attending an HBCU, providing the love, the life lessons and relationships that last a lifetime,” said Sheila Eldridge, Howard University alumna and Salute THEM Awards Creator/Executive Producer.
The event will be co-hosted by “Greenleaf” actor and activist Lamman Rucker and Café Mocha Radio hosts Angelique Perrin, YoYo and Loni Love.
