Former NBA Champion Approved By NCAA To Play Golf For North Carolina A&T State University

The former NBA player J.R. Smith was cleared by the NCAA to play collegiate golf for North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, NC.
The 16-year NBA veteran has decided to return to college after previously forgoing it back in 2004 for the NBA. Now, Smith is attending classes at North Carolina A&T aiming to pursue a degree in liberal studies.
“This is an opportunity of a lifetime. Not many have had this opportunity ever. I just want to embrace it and take it as seriously as I can as far as a golfer. Well more as a student but just as well as a golfer as well,” said Smith in an article.
New Partnership Between Howard University School Of Business And Vanguard

The Howard University School of Business, Washington, DC, announced a new partnership with Vanguard to launch the Howard Sales Management Fellowship program.
As stated in a press release, the program will “create a sustainable pipeline of Howard students into sales careers through course development, faculty externships, workshops, student internships and job placement.”
Crystal Hardie Langston, a Vanguard chief diversity officer, says diversity, equity and inclusion are vital to Vanguard’s continued leadership, and states how Vanguard is determined to recognize talent from underrepresented communities.
“Joining forces with Howard University will enable Vanguard to reach some of the nation’s most promising students and provide them with the skills, resources and real-life experience necessary to succeed in the competitive and growing financial services field,” said Langston.
The program is expected to begin in the Fall 2021 semester.
West Virginia State University Announces Renovations Being Done To Its Stadium

On August 24, 2021, West Virginia State University announced that nearly $2 million in upgrades will be put towards its football stadium.
The project is said to include the installation of an artificial turf field, lights, and new bleachers.
“The project will not only enhance the ability of our teams to recruit exceptional student-athletes from across the country, but it will enhance the ability of our current student-athletes to prepare, train, and compete for championships. We are extremely grateful for the generous support from the Honey Bear Project, the Jacobson Foundation, and the Kanawha County Commission,” said WVSU Athletic Director Nate Burton in a press release.
Florida A&M University Names Mira Lowe New Dean Of The School Of Journalism & Graphic Communication

FAMU (Florida A&M University) Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Maurice Edington announced that Mira Lowe has been chosen as the new dean for the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication.
Lowe is a veteran journalist and editor who has been assistant dean for student experiences at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications (CJC) since 2019. Since 2017, she has also served as director of the CJC Innovation News Center.
“It’s an honor to have the opportunity to build upon (FAMU’s) legacy of scholarship, professional preparation and cultural pride,” Lowe said. “Being dean is a chance of a lifetime to help expand its record of achievement and to play a proud part in this HBCU moment.”
Lowe is scheduled to take over the position on October 22, 2021.

Bowie State University And Radiant Digital Solutions Announce Partnership

BSU and Radiant Digital Solutions joined forces to “explore novel applications of emerging technologies in a new public-private partnership intended to invigorate entrepreneurship.” The two organizations will work together on Radiant-funded research projects to collaborate on groundbreaking research and innovation projects.
Shankar Rachakonda, a Radiant Digital Chief Executive Officer, says that the partnership between the two organizations is a powerful combination since the university brought a set of resources, skills, and talent from its faculty and students.
“Radiant’s experience in delivering digital transformation solutions in public and private sectors allows us to collaborate on creativity, design thinking, and execution in building the next generation of transformative enterprise and digital products and platforms,” said Rachakonda.
