VSU ranks among the South’s Best “Bang for your Buck” universities
VSU recognized for helping non wealthy students obtain degrees at affordable prices.
VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY, VA– Virginia State University (VSU) ranks among the South’s best institutions in the Bang for your Buck category. According to Washington Monthly’s 2020 College Guide and Rankings, Virginia State University ranks as the top Bang for your Buck HBCU in Virginia and ranks16th among all of the Commonwealth’s 45 Universities. In addition, VSU ranks in the top 25 percent of all universities in the south.
Washington Monthly ranks Best Bang for the Buck colleges based on the university’s ability to help non-wealthy students obtain marketable degrees at affordable prices.
“Virginia State University prides itself on being an opportunity university. Our goal is to be a national model institution offering opportunities for educating students from all backgrounds to attain high academic achievement and employment success rates. This ranking is further evidence that we are achieving that goal,” says VSU President, Dr. Makola M. Abdullah.
According to Washington Monthly, “The list is created by isolating the social mobility metrics from the main rankings of four-year institutions. The annual College Guide and Rankings rate schools based on what they do for the country.”
This new report supports recent rankings by CollegeCalc.org which lists Virginia State University as the third most affordable public university in Virginia. Virginia State University’s tuition is 23 percent less than the national average public four-year tuition.
The rankings support Virginia State University’s first priority of its new Strategic Plan. The goal of Preeminence with Purpose: Priority 1 is to Increase Student Opportunity and Access to Higher Education.
