To feel tender affection for someone, to feel intense desire for another or to like someone very much can all be attributed to what at times defies description. When these feelings overtake us, words can often lose their ability to communicate the true nature or intensity of the feelings we are experiencing. Love and loving are universal. Race, age, gender, class or nationality does not define these feelings – they belong to us all. Love comes in all types and forms from romantic love to parental love to the great sense of adoration we feel for our friends and extended family members. Caring and sharing our love with one another is one of the characteristics that distinguish us from other parts of the animal kingdom. Why is it so difficult to say those words sometimes? —“I Love You.”
We often forget to say that we love those closest to us and to remember that they also love us. Love is a powerful emotion with potent medicinal properties. Love is healing and can make people laugh just as easily as it can make them cry. Love requires that we make commitments and keep promises. And even when we fail, love itself will never fail us. No matter the pain or loss we may feel at any given moment in life’s journey, the love of those who care for us can always bind us back together. Loving arms wrapped around us can help us to hold on in those difficult moments when we want to let go and give up. In order for love to be complete, it must be shared. Only when it is given away is it able to replenish itself. Love must be shared to be fully expressed in its most potent form. Love demonstrates to each one of us that we are not alone. Never take the love you feel or the love you receive for granted.
In these moments of extreme angst, unhappiness, injustice and fear we may be feeling right now, it is necessary to take a moment and remember that you have love in your life. Somebody somewhere is thinking about you with affection, care and even love. And there must be someone that you have a genuine affection for too. Sometimes we need to allow LOVE to overtake us. It doesn’t take a Hallmark Holiday to remember the power of LOVE. Stevie Wonder reminds us to …Just call to say, “I love you.” Happy Valentine’s Day
